Streamlining Indonesian Customs Clearance Procedures in Japan- Indonesia Business Transactions ~TradeWaltz-HAKOVO Integration Accelerates Trade DX~

TradeWaltz Inc. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Takahiro Sato; hereinafter referred to as “TradeWaltz”) announces that it has realized a significant improvement in the efficiency of trade procedures for exports from Japan to Indonesia by integrating with HAKOVO, a platform that enables electronic import and export declarations to the Indonesian Customs. TradeWaltz is pleased to announce that the commercial use of the TradeWaltz-HAKOVO integration has started in December 2024. After TradeWaltz has been working on various overseas projects, this integration marked the first commercial application.
■Outline of TradeWaltz- HAKOVO Integration
The TradeWaltz-HAKOVO integration is a project implemented through the JETRO’s “Program for Strengthening Overseas Supply Chains” *. The project was kicked off in November 2023, and over the course of several months, we have been working on requirements definition, development, and system testing for platform integration. In September 2024, we successfully conducted a Proof of Concept with the support of our partner company. After confirming the efficiency of the integration, we decided to launch the commercial use in December, following the project completion.

■Operational Efficiency Increased by TradeWaltz- HAKOVO Integration
In the Proof of Concept, shipping document data entered into TradeWaltz by Japanese exporters was seamlessly aligned to Indonesian importers via HAKOVO. On the Indonesian side, the data can be used to facilitate communication between importers and customs brokers, as well as import clearance from customs brokers to customs, without the need of any paper at all.
This integration led to a 96% reduction in customs declaration time from 18 hours to 37 minutes for data verification and input into the system on the Indonesian side. In addition, the number of processes required by customs brokers has been reduced by 58%, and the cost per transaction has been cut by 67%, resulting in remarkable efficiency gains.
In recent years, as more and more companies seek to improve efficiency by digital technology, this integration has paved the way for the complete digitalization of import/export procedures.
■Future Prospects
In the future, we plan to expand the service to a wide range of business between Japanese exports and Indonesian imports. As the number of users increases, we plan to cover Indonesian exports and Japanese imports, depending on the needs of the users. Furthermore, we are also rolling out to other ASEAN countries such as Thailand and Vietnam, and will promote the digitalization of trade procedures throughout Asia.
This initiative will contribute to overcoming the supply chain vulnerabilities exposed by COVID-19, improving the visibility of trade transactions, and building a more resilient system. With digital technology, we will support the economic growth in both countries and the upgrading of their value chains.
■Comments from the parties concerned
Takayuki Akahodani, CEO, HAKOVO
With the establishment of TradeWaltz-HAKOVO digital integration, we are moving toward further strengthening the entire supply chain and digitization of operations. This digital linkage will promote the digitalization of trade, including the industrial parks in the eastern suburbs of Jakarta, where many Japanese manufacturers have established operations. In addition, we will expand the digitalization of trade to other ASEAN countries in the future.
Takahiro Sato, Representative Director, President, CEO and COO of TradeWaltz
It has been four years since TradeWaltz was established. The TradeWaltz-HAKOVO collaboration has made it possible to perform customs clearance procedures without using paper on the Indonesian side in the Japan-Indonesia’s business. This is a very big step forward for TradeWaltz, and we hope to horizontally expand the knowledge and experiences gained from this collaboration to other ASEAN countries.
