Tradewaltz Inc. (Hereafter referred to as Tradewaltz) that operates TradeWaltz®, a trade information linkage platform, met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, the ASEAN chair, who was attending the Asia-Pacific Water Summit in Kumamoto on Saturday evening, April 23, towards future service expansion into Cambodia.

Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed his desire for further cooperation in the Sihanoukville Port Upgrading Project currently in promotion with the Japanese government.

Japanese historical background of supporting international Trade in Cambodia

Since 1999, the Japanese government corporated with JICA to support the development of Sihanoukville, Cambodia’s main port, including investments to aim at developing Cambodia’s international trade. As Cambodia’s only deep-water port, Sihanoukville Port has been establishing itself as an international port capable of receiving large vessels and has recently begun switching over to management by private Japanese companies, and further advancement measures have been implemented, including Port-EDI (※1 planned to be released in August 2022).

Logistics hubs currently being promoted in Japan and Cambodia
As Cambodia is geographically located in the middle of the ASEAN region, it has the potential to become a transfer station (=logistics hub) for the region by upgrading its logistic capabilities, and to do this it plans to advance Sihanoukville Port further in cooperation with the Japanese government and companies.  In particular, the construction to increase the water depth of Sihanoukville Port from 13 to 14 meters is an important project for receiving large vessels and expanding direct trade with other countries like Japan, and Prime Minister Hun Sen is highly interested in the project. (※3

In addition, AEON Mall Cambodia has built and started operating the country’s first multifunctional logistics center in the Sihanoukville Port Special Economic Zone, equipped with the necessary licenses for cross-border EC businesses including customs bound function, agency services for customs clearance and fulfillment center functions. *4)
