[Outline]

TMIP (Tokyo Marunouchi Innovation Platform), an open innovation platform mainly for large corporations, will continue to strengthen its collaboration with various TMIP advisors and partners from industry, government, academia, and the city, with the aim of creating many innovations in and around the Marunouchi area.

What is TMIP?
TMIP (Tokyo Marunouchi Innovation Platform) is an initiative to create an innovation ecosystem in the Otemachi-Marunouchi-Yurakucho (OMY) area by bringing together large corporations, start-ups, government and academia to solve social issues and create innovations for the global market. It is a platform that supports the creation of innovation for the global market by solving social issues through collaboration between large corporations, startups, government and academia.

Following on from the success of the previous event, this year’s event will be co-hosted with the University of Tokyo IPC on the theme of “carve-outs” as a method for creating and growing new businesses.
Traditionally, carve-outs have been used for cutting out unprofitable businesses, but in recent years, carve-outs have been increasingly considered as a means for the growth process of new businesses.
The use of carve-outs, which have a different meaning from ordinary business liquidation, is expected to increase, as even promising businesses can be cut out of the company to raise more funds and achieve further growth through business collaboration.

In this event, we will start with an overview of carve-outs as a means to create and grow new businesses, followed by a panel discussion with executives from companies that have actually implemented carve-outs to find out how they went about it and what they really thought about it.
Also participating in the panel discussion will be Mr. Yuma Saito of Deloitte Tohmatsu Venture Support, who is working to foster in-house entrepreneurs.
We believe that this will be a good opportunity for large corporations with diverse initiatives and assets to increase their options for scaling new businesses born within the company.
