~Aiming to Build an All Japan Platform with Logistics Providers~

TradeWaltz Inc., the operator of the trading-related information-sharing platform TradeWaltz, is pleased to announce that it has conducted a seminar at the beginning of the year at the Japan International Freight Forwarders Association (JIFFA), an industry group responsible for international freight forwarding. This seminar follows up on the “Initiatives for a Next Generation Trade Platform Using Blockchain Technology” seminar conducted in early 2019.

Getting what you need, when you need it, and where you need it. Trade, the distribution of goods across national borders, has expanded in the face of globalism.

In Japan, despite the transient impact of COVID-19, the demand for trade is only increasing and is growing by 5.0% every year. On the other hand, the number of people who are in charge of trade is decreasing year by year which is partly due to the declining birthrate and aging population. Now, we are facing a serious shortage of manpower. Unless we improve the efficiency of trade practices so that trade can be executed with fewer people, the supply chain will be affected in the not-too-distant future. (*1)

(*1) Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), “Past Efforts and Future Direction for Trade Facilitation” (excerpt of content): As the volume of exports using ports increases in line with the globalization of supply chains, the shortage of manpower in the field of logistics has become serious. It is necessary to improve the efficiency of trade procedures and strengthen export competitiveness.

In order to improve this situation, TradeWaltz was created as a platform that uses blockchain technology to digitalize the paper documents that the Japanese trade industry is full of, dramatically improving operations and enabling remote work. In November last year, TradeWaltz Inc. entered into a partnership with NACCS, a Japanese standard customs clearance system that is used by 99% of traders involved in international freight forwarding, and is moving forward to become an all-Japan platform.

At the JIFFA New Year’s Seminar on January 27, 2021, we gave a presentation on the theme of “Business Development of the TradeWaltz® platform and its Benefits to NVOCC.” We spoke about how we would like to work with NVOCCs and other logistics companies to improve the efficiency of trade operations in Japan as a whole to enhance Japan’s competitiveness. We will continue to make steady progress in this direction.

【Comments from People Involved】

TradeWaltz Inc., President & CEO, Hirohisa Kojima

We are honored to have this opportunity to introduce TradeWaltz to the 507 members of JIFFA, whose members are involved in international freight forwarding. In order to improve the efficiency of trade in Japan as a whole, the participation and cooperation of logistics companies, including NVOCC, is indispensable.

JIFFA, Chairman of the Information Committee, Masayasu Watanabe

This online seminar was a great opportunity to learn more about the relationship between the blockchain technology trade platform and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT)-led Cyberport, as well as how the NVOCC and forwarders can work together with the NACCS to support the system. It was great to learn the direction of how NVOCC and forwarders will deal with the system in the future. There was a high level of interest among the members, and I would like to consider re-distributing it in the archives.
