A total of 120 companies have joined the “Trade Consortium” in one year after the public application invitation started, for which TradeWaltz Inc. serves as the secretariat, including Japanese companies and overseas mega-banks newly joined

The number of member companies of the “Consortium for Improving the Efficiency and Expansion of Trade Information Linkage” (commonly known as Trade Consortium) has reached 120 as of May 24, 2022, after about one year passed since the start of the public application invitation. This consortium is managed by TradeWaltz Inc. (hereinafter TradeWaltz), which operates the TradeWaltz, a trade information linkage platform.
In addition, we have a new member, Bank of Ayutthaya, a major commercial bank in Thailand and an affiliated company of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group. As Trade Consortium, it is a great honor to have not only Japan companies, but also overseas companies participate. We will further promote trade DX based on the knowledge of both Japan and Thailand.
■After one year of the open call, 80 companies from a variety of business categories joined Trade Consortium
Trade Consortium was initially established in August 2017 by NTT Data Corporation as the secretariat and 18 trade-related companies have gathered to identify issues and conduct demonstrations. Later, in April 2021, the new Trade Consortium with the aim of expanding trade digitalization with TradeWaltz as the secretariat.
The new Trade Consortium, which started with a total of 40 companies, started a public call for membership on the following month, May 21, 2021. 80 companies have joined since then, from various business categories, including trading companies, manufacturers, banks, insurance companies, logistics companies, shipping lines, IT vendors, public institutions, and overseas companies, and as of May 24, there are 120 member companies. ■Overview of the Trade Consortium’s activities
The Trade Consortium informs its members about TradeWaltz and works in working groups with volunteer members. We are promoting trade DX from a wide range of aspects, including the revision of the act on the digitalization of bills of lading, demonstrations of cooperation with existing trade platforms and overseas platforms of each country.
・Regulatory Reform Working Group (Activities to revise the act on the digitalization of bills of lading)
・Service Study Working Group
1) Activities toward digitalizing certificates of origin
2) Promoting the Electronic Books Preservation Act and considering collaborating with each country’s government and global platforms
3) Activities to consider financial services
・Activities to share issues and expand services at trade sites, etc.
The collaboration with ABeam Consulting Ltd., a member company (※1), was announced recently, and concrete discussions have begun between the five countries (Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand) that were proposed at Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) towards the realization of platform collaboration (※2) in FY 2022.
